We believe in the power of communities to drive positive change for their children – in education and beyond

How it all started

Behind mc2h is a passion to see West Africa thrive. Below is a bit about the mc2h journey.

mc2h is a family foundation, created by Michael Hacking in 2016 out of a passion to
help make a difference in Africa – home to him and his family for much of their lives.
mc2h enabled him to personally contribute to the continent he so loves, starting with
education.

2016 – 2020

Having established its values, mc2h embarked on a new phase in 2021. It adopted a more institutional structure and began to receive funding from the family-owned business, Mocoh Group, which Michael established in 1998 and is Chairman of today. Mocoh pledged USD 12m for mc2h to scale its impact up to 2030. Mocoh is still mc2h foundation’s principal funder today, while mc2h continues to be fully independent in its governance, decision-making and strategy.

2020-2021

Michael’s devotion to Africa is shared by his family, including son Guy – now CEO of Mocoh – and daughter Tara, who became Executive Director of mc2h in 2021 to head its strategic development. Under her leadership, mc2h refined its focus to early-years literacy, the cornerstone of all education and the foundation’s rallying cry today. This purposeful focusing of funds and knowledge has taken mc2h to become the only foundation dedicated exclusively to literacy in West Africa.
